Shirley M. Horta, a woman with a heart of pure gold, shares her North Olmsted home with up to fourteen roommates at a time. Not just anyone needing a place to call home, mind you, but people needing an extra bit of care and understanding as they navigate the endless little details of daily life. In 1985 Shirley and her husband founded a similar home on W. 117th in Cleveland, and then another near Mochican Park in Ashland, Ohio. In 1995, she opened River Crossing at Bradley Woods, conveniently located at 29794 Lorain Road. We met with Shirley and RN Consultant Carol Hale recently, and listened as they provided this overview of the services available at River Crossing at Bradley Woods;
River Crossing at Bradley Woods offers independent and assisted living accommodations in a welcoming country atmosphere at about half the price of a nursing home. We provide a home-style living environment with clean, private or semi-private rooms, bathing and dressing assistance, housekeeping and laundry service, social activities, three well-balanced meals each day, and snacks are available anytime. We provide medication monitoring, companionship, on-call doctors and nurses, and a well trained staff dedicated to creating a loving, caring atmosphere. We also offer short-term stay accommodations and day care for those caregivers who need to work or re-energize.
Family-owned and operated, we are an O.D.H. licensed facility and provide physical, emotional, and social care for Alzheimer's, Dementia, mental health, and elderly residents. Our Certified Professional Staff has years of experience as assisted living professionals, and strives to ensure each resident remains as independent as possible while treating them with the dignity and respect they deserve. Unlike large-scale retirement complexes, we have a beautifully appointed, comfortable, safe, and secure home right here in the local community. When you think of home, you probably think of relaxed, well-known surroundings, your preferred food, a special easy chair, and a neighborhood filled with trees, flowers, and friendly companionship. That's what River Crossing at Bradley Woods is all about.
River Crossing at Bradley Woods is truly home for our residents. They are encouraged to furnish their rooms with their own belongings, and they get up in the morning and go to bed at night on their own schedule. Birthdays, holidays, and special occasions are always observed, and our resident's families are welcome to attend. We have a pleasant dining room where home-cooked meals are served family-style, and a family room with a large screen television with cable. Our patio and well-tended lawn and gardens provide an ideal place to sit and visit with friends, or to simply enjoy the day.
We provide more than just assisted living services, realizing that providing for our residents' social and emotional needs is as essential as looking after their physical well-being. Rather than providing a typical institutional setting, we surround our residents with individualized care and attention. This is their home, and our goal is to make each resident feel like a loved, valued family member.
